So I'm guessing it was 5am (I didn't check but I had that feeling like I knew it was time to get up, but still didn't want to)...Allen comes and starts whining that his face hurts. My first assumption is that he did some goofy boy/2ND grader move yesterday, and now he has a bruise. I told him to go back to bed, it's still dark, we'll discuss his newest ailment when the sun comes up. I guess I just wanted to get a good start on the year. Rack up as many "Worst Mother of the Year" points as I could and early as I could!
The sun comes up and here again comes Allen, but this time I actually look at his face....
"WHAT IN THE WORLD?!!!!"
"Where's the phone? I need to call the doctor! You are going to the doctor Right Now!"
I calmed down pretty immediately, but let me tell you what I saw when I finally paid attention.
On the right side of Allen's face, just under the jaw line and all the way to just above his collar bone, is swollen! It was like Lymph Nodes Gone Wild!
I talked to the nurse triage, and he transferred me to the Dr.'s office.
So we drop Wesley off with a wonderful friend who took him to school for me, and we got Allen in the first appointment of the day, we were even there before the Dr! He looked at Allen, took his temp-normal, looked at his throat-normal, gave him a strep test-negative. Now the man is stumped! He calls in one of the other doctors in the practice, and this guy pokes and prods-again stumped. They decide to consult with the third member of the practice. Same story, same ending!
I am over the worried feeling for the most part, because he is acting normal- at least for a 7 year old! But I still would like to know what is going on...They consult with an E.N.T. then decide to send him for blood work and start him on a heavy duty antibiotic, as a precaution. We have an appointment with the E.N.T. tomorrow who may do an ultrasound to try and figure out what is going on. I'll let you know!

Ooh scary..I hate my kids being sick..especially when it's something weird!!
Good luck! Did they do blood tests? Hopefully it's nothing, so push the vitamin C and don't worry too much if you don't have to. I had a virus that did that to me many years ago and I just got better on my own. Keep us posted.
